World Publishing Expo and new Digital Content Expo coming to Berlin in 2017

Thursday 06. October 2016 - While the countdown continues for next week’s World Publishing Expo in Vienna, WAN-IFRA announced today that next year’s revamped event will be returning to Berlin. Under the motto "Make Publishing Successful", the IFRA World Publishing Expo and the new parallel DCX Digital Content Expo will both highlight the numerous opportunities opening up to the industry.

For 46 years, news media professionals from all over the world have gathered at Expo, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). Next week, from 10-12 October, they will convene in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

WAN-IFRA announced last week that the association has entered into a joint venture with børding Holding GmbH (børding messe) to co-organise IFRA World Publishing Expo and the DCX Digital Content Expo, starting next year. The two shows are scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 October 2017 under one roof at the Messe Berlin exhibition centre. Visitors will have access to both Expos with a single entry ticket.

Berlin, named one of the top 15 cities in the Innovation Cities Global Index, was the site of World Publishing Expo in 2013. That show attracted more than 8500 visitors from 90 countries and 267 exhibiting companies. Indeed, the capital of Germany is increasingly a popular destination today for both events and visitors.

And it is an ideal city to launch the new exhibition concept that will feature more of the personalised services and highlights that WAN-IFRA introduced at this year’s Expo – benefitting both media professionals and media providers. The show will clearly reflect the diversified strategies, products and solutions where news publishers are active today and in the future – both in print and digital.

Make Publishing Successful

The common theme of both exhibitions describes a core issue confronting many publishing managers, as Alexander R. Petsch, Managing Director of the Publishing Exhibition, explains: “The burning issue of securing sustainable business models is chief among publishers and journalists. With the two exhibitions, we aim to help master the irreversible changes that digitisation has brought about.”

Manfred Werfel, Deputy CEO of WAN-IFRA, adds: “The Expo is the annual industry gathering for international news media experts and providers to not only discuss and investigate the latest technology solutions and services, but also to network and benchmark their strategic imperatives. The concept of two parallel exhibitions, each with a different focus, will indeed expand the range of topics covered.”

The IFRA World Publishing Expo offers the possibility to explore all aspects of producing content across the entire organisation – from content creation to production to distribution. Publishers get the opportunity to obtain first-hand information about international developments. The DCX Digital Content Expo is dedicated to products and services for digital activities: It provides an overview of the solutions available on the market, from content strategy and digital production, up to monetisation.

Publishing Exhibition GmbH & Co. KG IG is a joint venture of børding Holding GmbH (børding messe) and WAN-IFRA. børding Holding GmbH specialises in the design, organisation and realisation of trade fairs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and is the leading organiser of digital exhibitions, such as exhibition organisers in Switzerland, such as “Swiss Online Marketing (SOM)”, “Swiss e-Business Expo”, “DMX Austria” and “eCom World” as well as “IT-Expo.ch” and “IT-Expo.at”.
